Selective Forest Underbrushing

Starting Condition
The before photo shows ferns and other low vegetation covering the forest floor between mature trunks. The existing tree canopy is visible above the dense understory.
The Goal
Create clearer sight lines and more open ground beneath the trees without clearing the mature stand.
Approach
Selective underbrushing worked between retained trunks, focusing on the low growth rather than removing the established trees.
The Result
The low vegetation has been cleared from the forest floor, opening sight lines between the mature trees while retaining the canopy.
