Selective Forest Underbrushing

A project example showing dense low growth cleared from between mature trees while the established canopy remained.

Before

Dense ferns and low vegetation beneath mature trees before underbrushing
Ferns and other low growth filled the ground between established trunks.

After

Open forest floor beneath retained mature trees after selective underbrushing
The same stand has a more open forest floor while the mature trees remain.

Starting Condition

The before photo shows ferns and other low vegetation covering the forest floor between mature trunks. The existing tree canopy is visible above the dense understory.

Practical Objective

Create clearer sight lines and more open ground beneath the trees without clearing the mature stand.

Approach

Selective underbrushing worked between retained trunks, focusing on the low growth rather than removing the established trees.

What the Photos Show

The same trunk pattern and canopy appear in both views. The after photo shows the low vegetation cleared from the forest floor while mature trees remain; the photos do not establish a town, acreage, equipment reach, or property-value outcome.

What To Tell Virgil

Tell Virgil which trees need to stay, how open you want the understory, where equipment can enter, and whether fences, structures, or soft areas affect access.

Service Area

Based in Dunnellon, FL, serving Ocala, Crystal River, Williston, Bronson, Inglis, Yankeetown, and nearby rural properties.
