Selective Forest Underbrushing

A beautiful piece of woods in Ocala that was unusable due to invasive undergrowth. Now it's a park.

The Challenge

This property owner in Ocala loved their oak canopy but hated the invasive mimosa and ferns that made the forest floor a tangled mess. They wanted to see through the woods without cutting down the trees that gave the land its character.

The Solution

We used a high-flow skid steer with a mulching head to surgically remove the understory.

  • Precision: We maneuvered around oaks as small as 4 inches in diameter to preserve them.
  • Mulching: Vines and invasive plants were ground into the soil surface.
  • Canopy Lift: We removed high hanging vines and dead limbs (up to ~12ft) to open the view.

Results

The "wall of green" is gone. The owner can now mow between the trees and enjoy the shade. The property value increased immediately by making the acreage usable.
